We believe that fishing is a sport which is open and fun for children and adults of all ages and physical abilities. The purpose of H.O.O.K. is to teach children the basics of fishing while planting the seed of desire for further knowledge of the sport. We teach children the fundamentals of knot tying, types of fish, casting, safety around water, and handling fish in a fun and exciting format. The children enjoy games, handling real live bait, and an actual fishing trip on a local body of water as well as instruction in a loose classroom environment.
H.O.O.K. also hopes to teach parents how to make fishing trips enjoyable for both them and their children. We teach parents the same basics as the kids and give them practical ways to make the trip pleasurable. Children do have short attention spans, and as we all know, fishing can take some time before we see results. We give parents ideas about good places to fish with children, games, and different things they can do to keep the child occupied and focused on their surroundings, like starting a rock collection or finding crickets for bait.
It is our hope that, after children and their parents complete this course or attend one of our seminars, they will be motivated to go to their local pond, lake, or river, and try fishing together. We believe that learning to spend time together in this way can bring families closer together and give them a hobby they can enjoy their entire lives.
